Plot/Synopsis
The movie is based on Producer, Director and Writer Ah-Niu’s own childhood experiences while growing up in Penang, Malaysia and he himself plays a secondary schoolboy who is secretly in love with a school mate, played by Lee. Wong, Chaw and Leong play the pair’s childhood friends and they all go through the trials, tribulations and of course, the puppy love that goes along with it.

Plot/Synopsis

The plot centres around three sisters, two of whom are happily married (or so it appears). The youngest sister is single and living with her cute older brother, whom she is desperately in love with. A second sister is married to a man who has another woman and child elsewhere whom he loves just as much as his wife -with a few conditions, she agrees to carry on with the marriage. The third sister and her husband are overjoyed to discover she is pregnant, and though he is tempted, her husband remains loyal to her. Bitter sweet, ace family saga film.

Synopsis:
1942. Malaya. Sgt. Yasuo Fujii, a war cameraman, is huddled in a trench, waiting to film the Japanese 6th Army cross the Slim River on its way south to Kuala Lumpur. An enemy mortar shell lands in the trench and, in a heartbeat, Sgt. Fujiiis running through the jungle for his life. Armed with nothing except his 8mm camera, the young soldier soon hooks up with remnants of the scattered 6th Army. Together with three soldiers, he must race against time to get a fatally wounded soldier back to the division in Kuala Lumpur. However, everything starts to go wrong and they get lost in the maze-like jungle. All their maps are wrong and their radio malfunctions. Sgt. Fujii starts sighting mysterious figures through his camera viewfinder, and a female ghost starts to haunt them. Survival is at stake and the ghost is hot on their heels. Will they make it to safety?

MTV music videos by little known Malaysian singer Xiao Feng Feng. Some of the songs maybe recognized as Mandarin songs in Hokkien. It is a shame that there is not much information on Xiao Feng Feng, however; she sings beautifully in the Hokkien language! It seems that Hokkien music differs from Mandarin and Cantonese music in melody and tempo. The melodies are softer and more simple, while the tempo, or “beat” is heavier in use of drums and accent with background instruments. Please play the sample video.
Famous and popular female Taiwanese performers who also sing in the Hokkien dialect include Teresa Teng, Timi Zhuo(Zhuo Yi Ting), and Han Bao Yi.

There are many Hokkien speakers among overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. Many ethnic Chinese emigrants to the region were Hoklo from southern Fujian, and brought the language to what is now Indonesia (the former Dutch East Indies) and present day Malaysia and Singapore (formerly Malaya and the British Straits Settlements). Many of the Hokkien dialects of this region are highly similar to Taiwanese and Amoy. Hokkien is reportedly the native language of up to 98.5% of the community of ethnic Chinese in the Philippines, among whom it is also known as Lan-nang or Lán-lâng-oe. Hokkien speakers form the largest group of Chinese in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Synopsis :

“Happy Go Lucky” seeks to tackle the issue of gambling in a light-hearted yet touching manner. Hardcore gambler, Hock Lee Poh (Richard Low) is an ardent believer of Feng Shui, but is always down on his luck. His eldest daughter Donna (Patricia Mok), though petty and calculative, spends all her time and money on lavish nightlife and hunky social escorts – till she loses everything in the end. Fu Xin (Fann Wong), Poh’s illegitimate second daughter is born at an extremely inauspicious hour and thus labeled as the “jinx” of the family. However, Fu Xin actually is a surreptitious ‘Lucky Star’ who always manages to turn unfavourable conditions into favourable ones. Fu Xin sacrifices a lot for the family. And in a twist of fate and luck, she unexpectedly helps Poh to win a hefty sum of money. Meanwhile, Poh and Donna find themselves stranded along the streets of Cambodia in a failed attempt to recoup their losses at the gambling tables.
