Synopsis / Plot
1920s. Vietnam under colonial French ruling. Anti-French rebellions emerge all over the country to disrupt the foreign occupiers. In respond, the colonialist employed units of Vietnamese agents to track and destroy these rebels. The film follows the journey of LE VAN CUONG, a French cultured undercover elite. Although branded with a perfect track record, Cuong’s inner conscience is troubled by the sea of Vietnamese blood he had spilled to uphold a French washed ideal. Following an assassination of a high ranking French, Cuong is assigned to seek and kill the notorious leader of the resistance. Cuong encounters VO THANH THUY, a relentless revolutionary fighter and the daughter of the rebel leader. Cuong’s superior intends for him to use Thuy as a mean to get to her father but Cuong soon has feelings for her. Thuy’s patriotism ignites conflicts between Cuong’s consciousness and his cultured faith. Will Cuong discover his inner-self and find love or will he continue his mission?

Synopsis / Plot
City of Life and Death takes place in 1937, during the height of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Imperial Japanese Army has just captured the then-capital of the Republic of China, Nanjing. What followed was known as the Nanking Massacre, or the Rape of Nanking, a period of several weeks wherein tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed. The film tells the story of several figures, both historical and fictional, including a Chinese soldier, a schoolteacher, a Japanese soldier, a foreign missionary, and John Rabe, a Nazi businessman who would ultimately save thousands of Chinese civilians.

Plot/Review: The background of the film is set after the fall of Sanggyeong, the capital of Balhae in 926. Khitan established the Dongdan Kingdom who dispatched Chucksaldan (a.k.a. Killer Blade Army), a group of the hit squads and sweeps out the royal family in order to prevent a reconstruction of Balhae. Resistants who are composed of the rest of the followers of Balhae leave to find out the family member of the king, who is able to rebuild Balhae.
The movie begins at the quarters of Balhae Crown Prince Dae Soo-Hyun. A battle ensues as the Balhae Imperial guard and the KBA fight off. Gun appears and sees that Mae and the KBA soldiers took care of the Imperial guard. Gun and Mae enter the Crown Prince’s quarters. Suddenly, the captain of the Imperial guard enters the room to protect the Crown Prince, but is killed by Mae. Gun asks the Crown Prince and gives him one more chance to surrender to the Dongdan Kingdom, but the Crown Prince refuses. He unsheathes his ‘Mooyonggum’ (shadowless sword), and charges at Gun, but Gun uses a military technique on the Crown Prince from below. The Crown Prince is shown lying down on a bloody floor with his sword out of his hand.

Synopsis / Plot
The movie takes place in Kyoto around 1865, in the last days of traditional samurai. It is strange that a candidate as effeminate as Sozaburo would be one of two finalists chosen after sword-fighting auditions, but then again there is a look in the eye of Capt. Hijikata (Beat Takeshi) that hints of hidden agendas.

Synopsis / Plot
In the end of Goryeo era politically manipulated by the Yuan Dynasty, the ambitious King of the Goryeo Dynasty organizes Kunryongwe. Hong Lim, the commander of Kunryongwe, captivates the King of Goryeo, and the Queen keeps her eyes on the relationship between Hong Lim and the King with a reluctant view. Meanwhile, the bilateral relation between Goryeo and the Yuan gets worse as Yuan demands to install the cousin of the King in the Crown Prince of Goryeo with ascribing it to no son the King has. The King refuses it resolutely, so the high-ranking officials of Goryeo, who are in submission to Yuan, are discontented with the king. One day, the King gives Hong Lim a covert yet unobjectionable order to sleep with the Queen instead of himself to protect the independence of Goryeo from the Yuan by making a son, the successor to Goryeo throne.
