Frugal Game (Hong Kong) (2002)
Diana and Wai have become overburdened with debt, and in a scheme to make some quick cash, they put together a fake “family” to go on a reality TV show. Their family is pitted against another one, and they must compete to see who can live off the smallest amount of money. But as the game approaches the end, the shows’ producer forces the director to make a few changes to boost ratings, which may inadvertently expose Diana and Wai for the frauds they are.
Review: While low-key in the laughs department, this Derek Chiu-directed comedy proves accomplished in many other ways. Frugal Game possesses a welcome and even comforting message, as well as canny performances from a fine ensemble cast.

Review: This is a film that captures the fine nuances of human emotions (or the inability to express them in the case of the autistic character). It explores in a realistic and heartfelt manner a family with an autistic child, and the outside world from which the child is protected. Thanks to a good script, good acting, and good production all round, their story was brought to life and we can really feel for the characters in this movie. On the one hand, this film is complex as it touches on many different themes, but on the other, it is so simple as it touches on the deepest of our roots and emotions.

Satoru Iwamoto, an elementary school student, is temporarily wheelchair bound after an accident. Adding to his misery is the recent loss of his mother which has left Satoru withdrawn; locking himself away from the outside world. In an effort to help Satoru recover from his injuries, emotional as well as physical, his father, Kaoru, has designed a remote-controlled robot that will go to school in his place and allow him to interact with people and do normal things.
