Plot/Synopsis
Three digital shorts drawn from the 2009 Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea. Hong Sang-soo (Woman on the Beach) directed the slyly humorous Lost in the Mountains, in which a young writer from Seoul impulsively drives to Jeonju, rekindles an affair with an old professor, and as a result upends her relationships with two close friends. Naomi Kawase’s wispy, allusive Koma follows a Japanese-Korean man on his journey to the legendary Mount Miwa region, where he’s drawn to an ethereal beauty. And in Lav Diaz’s sluggishly paced, poorly acted Butterflies Have No Memories, shot in 4:3 mode and in his trademark B&W, is about an affluent Canadian who encounters social unrest after returning to her declining hometown in the Philippines.
An excellent compilation of shorts marred only by Lav Diaz’s Butterfly Have No Memories submission and dreadful acting by his usual ensemble of actors. The only bright spot is that you don’t have to sit through eight hours of nonsense that over-rated director Diaz presents.

Plot/Synopsis
One day Mr Sugiyama sees a beautiful girl leaning out of the window of a dancing acadamy. he is fascinated by her and
eventually signs up for dancing lessons. He is ashamed of his dancing and afraid of ridicule. He hides the fact that he
is attending dancing classes from his colleagues and family.
There is a hilarious scene in the mensroom at the office when Sugiyama and Watanabe, a workmate who also dances, are
interrupted practising some dance steps. There are many other funny and warm-hearted scenes.
The ending is not a fairytale, but it leaves the viewer feeling good.
This movie helped me to understand the Japanese people a little better. It is a warm and very worthwhile film to see.

Plot/Synopsis
A slacker movie, Osaka indie style. Tsutomu (Uda) is hanging around waiting to play pachinko when he crosses paths with Kee (Yamamoto), who sports women’s shoes and a Leningrad Cowboys hairdo. Next thing he’s installed in Kee’s cluttered room helping to dub copies of porno tapes made at home by a couple Kee knows. Tsutomu has the odd violent thought, especially when caught shoplifting, but spends as much time as possible asleep. Yamashita’s rather wonderful film goes mainly for deadpan comedy, but doesn’t flinch when things start to go wrong for the amiably degenerate characters.

Synopsis :
