“Naan Kadavul” is a 2009 Indian Tamil film co-written and directed by Bala, based on the Tamil novel “Yezhaam Ulagam” by Jayamohan who also penned the dialogues for the film. The film, which had been in making for over three years, was finally released on 6 February 2009, received rave reviews and critical acclaim, winning two National Film Awards, including the Best Director Award for Bala, and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
The movie is about a man who believes that he is the Almighty and confers upon himself the right to decide the death and rebirth or otherwise of a soul. A complex concept and it requires a craftsman of Bala’s accomplishment and persistence to execute it. The film explores a world and people that are largely unknown to most of us.
Rudran, a fourteen-year-old boy, is abandoned by his father to grow up amidst the madmen and mendicants in the holy city of Varanasi. He falls in with a tantric sect and becomes an aghori—not just a holy man but a ganja-devouring god in the flesh, able to mete out divine justice. His story becomes entwined with a group of lepers and wretches held captive by an evil gang lord. The story notches up its physical and emotional violence when Rudran goes head-to-head with the gang lord, and ultimately shows us that even the gods, in their infinite mercy, can be supremely cruel.

The film illustrates two love stories (one set against the backdrop of Chennai, between Vinay and Amudha and the other in Tiruchi, between Kathiresan and Manimegalai) which join together in the climax.
It revolves around a group of passengers traveling in two different buses, each having their own past and a reason for their travel. Kathiresan is a responsible young person who works as a mechanic and secretly loves his neighbour Manimegalai, but Manimegalai is an extremely practical girl and believes that love alone doesn’t suffice life. The evolution of their love through these forms the crux of their relationship. Kathiresan and Manimegalai decide to get married and board a bus to meet Kathiresan’s parents. Meanwhile, Amudha seeks the help of a young happy-go-lucky urban guy Vinay in a journey to a new town and love blossoms in their hearts. They part ways and after thought and contemplation, they each board the bus to visit each other to express their feelings for one another. However destiny has something in store for all of them, and changes their lives forever through the journey,
The film released on 16 September 2011, to very positive reviews, going on to become a critical and commercial success and has won lot of critical acclaim as well. This was the first Tamil movie produced by Fox Star Studios.

Harishchandrachi Factory is that rare thing – a delightful film that makes its point with charm, simplicity and a wonderful lightness of being.
The film, which starts in 1911, is about Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer who made India’s first feature film “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913. Director Paresh Mokashi’s triumph is that instead of predictably eulogizing this extra-ordinary man, the film humanizes him and celebrates his utterly mad and ferocious passion for cinema.
Phalke, played by Nandu Madhav, wanders into a cinema tent quite by chance but he is hooked after experiencing his first moving pictures. He watches them repeatedly until he almost goes blind. At one point, his close friends fear for his sanity and take him to a mental hospital. Undeterred, Phalke collects money and leaves his pregnant wife and two children to go to England to learn the art of filmmaking. As he leaves, he instructs a friend not to notify him even if someone dies since he cannot come back before his training is over. The struggle to make Raja Harishchandra provides ample comedy and chaos. Even prostitutes refuse to work in a film because it would ruin their reputation so Phalke fakes boys for girls. At one point, the entire unit is arrested because the police mistake them for bandits. And when Raja Harishchandra premieres on May 3, 1913, only a stray dog shows up causing Phalke to remark: well, at least no one can say even a stray dog didn’t show up. Mokashi’s portrays Phalke as a Chaplinesque figure who can make you laugh and cry in a heartbeat. This movie won lot of national & international awards.

Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops) is a 2008 Indonesian film adapted from the popular same titled novel by Andrea Hirata. The movie follows a group of 10 schoolboys and their two inspirational teachers as they struggle with poverty and develop hopes for the future in Gantong Village on the farming and tin mining island of Belitung off the east coast of Sumatra.The movie, set in the 1970s, opens on the first day of the year at a Muhammadiyah elementary school on Belitung. The school needs 10 students but is one short until near the end of the day, when a straggler fills out the ranks for their teachers, Muslimah and Harfan. Muslimah dubs the children “The Rainbow Troops” (sometimes translated as “The Rainbow Warriors” ) and the movie traces their development and relationships with the teachers. The film’s local and international success fueled a tourism boom on Belitung, with Indonesian airline Garuda reopening direct service from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang, Belitung’s capital, on June 1, 2009.

Synopsis:
A lyrical and meditative tale that is often reminiscent of both Mike Leigh’s Naked (1993) and Takeshi Kitano’s early yakuza films, The Blessing Bell follows the wanderings of its blue-collar protagonist, Igarashi (Susumu Terajima) through the 24 hours that follow the closing of the factory he works for. After a fruitless job hunt, the newly unemployed man walks into other lost souls: a yakuza boss who has literally been stabbed in the back, a man who murdered his wife’s lover (but not his wife), a hopeless single mother, the ghost of an elderly man in a hospital (played by director Seijun Suzuki) and a suicidal salaryman. Coincidentally, he also runs into a burning building, gets hit by a car and wins the lottery
