Kung Fu Fighter is an action Kung Fu movie star Vanness Wu of JVKV (formerly known as F4). Hitman (Hong Kong) 1998
Jet Li’s latest is a curious film. It’s an action comedy about Fu (Jet), an ex-soldier who gets hired by a low-rent triad (Eric Tsang) to chase a $100 million dollar hit: to kill the King of Assassins, who was responsible for the murder of a powerful Japanese crimelord. Thing is, everyone and their brother is after the reward, including the Japanese guy’s son, who’s damn intent on getting that 100 million for himself.
Fu seems to have the ability to get the job done, but he’s too damn nice, which is a perfect fit for Jet Li the actor. This is actually the best character Jet Li has played in a while, eschewing his humorless acting for a gentler personality. This film effectively dodges the previously inescapable Jet Li bullet: no personality. Eric Tsang and Jet Li make a good team, with Tsang edging Li in the acting department. However, Li isn’t too bad, and we hear his real voice for the first time.
Gigi Leung shows up as Tsang’s daughter, a budding lawyer who takes a small shine to Fu. As always, she’s incredibly cute but she doesn’t do all that much. Simon Yam is on board as the cop intent on catching all the hitmen entering HK. There are some good action sequences that are weighed down by a sometimes confusing and slow plot. But, this film has a definite HK charm that it deserves credit for. This isn’t a thrill-a-minute exercise, but it’s quite worthwhile, especially for the chemistry between the actors. (Kozo 199

Synopsis / Plot
Hilarious Stephen Chow comedy that features Hong Kong’s King of Comedy at his most likable. Chow plays a dumb, endearing delivery boy who tries to win the heart of local beauty Christy Chung, but he’s a wimp who can’t protect her from the likes of Cheng Cho as the sleazy judo instructor. Chow decides to undergo training from Ng Man-Tat, who plays a crippled huckster called Devil Killer. He swindles Chow out of large sums of money while teaching him useless kung-fu. Not realizing it, Chow thinks he’s become an invincible kung-fu master and resolves to protect Chung.
Eventually Chow has the opportunity to save her while wearing a large Garfield mask, which could qualify as one of the funniest things ever put on film. Still, he cannot reveal his identity because everyone, including his karate-wielding nemesis (Lam Kwok-Bun) wants to take credit for his heroic deeds. Tenshu is imprisoned and sentenced to death for murdering the men who raped his girlfriend. However, he manages to survive his execution and is presented with an option: face another execution attempt or subject himself to their bizarre and dangerous experiments. He choses the latter and is put in a cell with a rapist and a woman who’s infected with a taint that transports from person to person during extreme anger. The taint is transferred to Tenshu and he must now deal with the military who has interrupted the experiment to obtain it

I found this movie to be very well-paced. The premise is quite imaginative, and as a viewer I was pulled along as the
characters developed. The pacing is done very well for those that like to think–enough is kept hidden from the viewer
early on, and questions keep arising which are later answered, producing a well-thought out and very satisfying film,
both cerebrally and from an action standpoint.
It seems some people were looking for a non-stop roller-coaster ride with this film–one of those that comes charging out
of the gate. This would be more analogous to one of those coasters that first takes you slowly up the hill–creating a
wonderful sense of anticipation–and is ultimately, in my mind, more fulfilling for the foundation initially laid.
Excellent film.
