Original story by Yasushi AKIMOTO, writer of the mega hit movie One Missed Call (Chakushin Ari) series. As the project was in development with an idea of an “infectious song (Densen-Uta)”, one of the staff called out…”There was a real Densen-Uta!” He discovers on the internet of a song back in 1933, Hungary, which caused mysterious deaths of many people.
When Anzu Natsuno hears a hauntingly beautiful song come from the lips of a girl who just moments later commits suicide on her schools premises, she begins to look deeper into her school and the song. Meanwhile, Takashi, an editor at a B-grade subculture magazine, hears a rumor about a song that will cause its listeners to die. In half disbelief, he looks into the truth. But when Takashi runs across Anzu in his persuit, the two step closer towards the shocking truth.

In many ways it seems fair to say that Mum Jokmok (Petchtai Wongkamlao) is the Thai equivalent to Robin Williams. Those who know him in North America likely do so purely thanks to his role as Dirty Balls (or George, in the tamed down Besson translation) in Ong Bak but the man is a massively popular entertainer in his homeland. Originally a stand up comic Jokmok has carved out an amazingly successful television and film career with a comic persona that involves the frantic expenditure of a great deal of energy, largely by speaking faster and louder than anyone around him. Now, Thai humor doesn’t translate particularly well so Jokmok’s many film appearances come off as largely one note – a very loud note - affairs on these shores so imagine the surprise when he turned up starring in the delicate, magical-realist romance Midnight My Love and – stop the press! – it turns out that when you rein this guy in he’s actually a very good actor.
Jokmok stars as Sombati, a solitary man who barely speaks a word while working the midnight shift driving a cab. He lives alone, eats alone, has barely any human contacts. When a fellow cabbie asks why he doesn’t carry a cell phone he replies that he “wouldn’t know who to call.†Sombati’s primary contact with the outside world is his car radio, constantly tuned to the same old fashioned AM radio station. He listens voraciously, losing himself in the radio soap operas and other programming – at one point kicking a noisy fare out of his cab for talking over a favorite soap – but is particularly fond of the late night oldies music show, frequently writing in to spill his soul to the DJ.
Sombati’s life changes when he meets Nual, a young woman forced to work in a high end brothel in Bangkok to support her family in their far distant village. The beautiful young woman is slipping into a deep depression when Sombati gives her a ride late one night and, perhaps sensing a kindred spirit, she arranges for Sombati to be her regular driver. Before long the pair are stopping for meals together and clearly are oh so tentatively falling in love.

Fifteen years have passed and Dae-soo is released with a wallet filled with money and a mobile phone. An unknown man calls Dae-soo and asks him to figure out why he was imprisoned. In front of bewildered Dae-soo, a girl named Mido appears and she promises to help him seek vengeance after hearing about his 15 years in confinement. With Mido’s help, Dae-soo begins to trace the guy and finally encounters the private prison where he discovers a cassette tape, which only says… “OH Dae-soo talks too much…†While Dae-soo and Mido’s search goes on, Dae-soo finally runs face to face with his kidnapper. The culprit says there will be no way to find out the reason of his imprisonment if Dae-soo kills him now. Instead, he proposes a game. He tells Dae-soo that if he discovers the reason for his imprisonment in five days, then he will kill himself. If not, he will kill Mido.
Only five days are given to Dae-soo to find out the reason behind the guy’s grudge against Dae-soo. While doing so, hidden secrets about Dae-soo and Mido’s relationship are revealed.
