Plot/Synopsis

Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse continues his string of period action dramas with the exciting epic series The Spirit of the Sword. This is Tse’s third starring role in a Gu Long adaptation, following Big Shot and Proud of Twins, and he is clearly in his element, handling both the action and drama with convince and charisma. Television fans may remember ATV’s classic 1978 The Spirit of the Sword adaptation starring the late Leslie Cheung, but this new updated version is an equally worthwhile and star-studded affair. Other than Tse, the drama stars EEG labelmate Gillian Chung of Twins, as well as Hong Kong actor Patrick Tam (Born Wild) and Taiwanese singer/actress Annie Yi (Poor Prince). (Read more)

Plot/Synopsis

Louis Koo plays Bob, an out of luck divorcee and debt collector, who has broken one too many promises with his estranged son, and is given one last chance for redemption as his aunt threatens to take custody of him. Meanwhile he is hit with the dilemma, as a complete stranger: a solo mother and engineering genius, Grace (Barbie Hsu), has been kidnapped by people who are pursuing her brother and randomly calls his phone asking for his urgent assistance. Will he rescue Grace? Will he see his son again?

Benny Chan (New Police Story, Rob B Hood) directs this remake of Cellular which surpasses the original in intensity, performances and pace, whilst hitting all the right notes of sentiment. With excellent performances by Hsu (outdoes Kim Basinger from the original) and Koo (who is very versatile (Protege) and definitely a star to look out for in days to come) who barely share any screen time together - they still maintain the authenticity of their grief. If you haven’t seen Cellular, don’t… not that it’s bad, but this one is much better. Well worth a watch for all action viewers (not for younger ones though, quite intense kidnapping scenes.)

Plot/Synopsis

Synopsis / Plot / Review

Gang-pae, #2 in his organization, is swamped with routine violence, and his dream of becoming an actor never went away. Star actor Soo-ta lives behind a veil, away from public eyes. Over time his behavior becomes increasingly agitated, provoked by paparazzi wanting a piece of him wherever he goes. This behavior puts him in a series of spiraling and uncontrollable situations. Now he begins shooting a new movie playing a gangster. Because of his bad temper, he beats up a fellow actor and forces the production to a halt. Feeling responsible, Soo-ta requests Gang-pae, whom he met by chance, to play alongside him in the movie in order to save the production. Gang-pae agrees with the condition that the violence portrayed in the movie has to be real and not fake acting violence. Soo-ta accepts the condition and they get ready for the real match.
